I forget what day I’m on… My carefully structured system has gone all to hell. And while I’m certain I could figure it out, perhaps it’s time to give up the day 1,572 thing. Suffice it to say Japan was awesome despite the fact that I caught a cold halfway through and that it’s still lingering.
I visited seven cities in Japan, met up with some awesome people (hi Zen, Jill, and Chris!), got burnt out on street passes, walked an average of 12,000 steps a day, went to 4 pokécenters, got bit by deer (the signs were right!), rode the shinkansen—bullet train—whenever possible (two 10 minute rides), ate fantastic curry, fresh oysters, spicy ramen, takoyaki, okonomiyaki (I like Hiroshima style best), experienced a 6.0 earthquake (not my first), played pokémon Tretta a lot, played Mai Mai plus a lot, and am generally sad to be home where I can read all the signs, don’t have to play frogger to cross lanes at the train station, and the average building is a single floor.
Between me and Casey (Kokuto for you longtime readers) I have somewhere around 2,000 pictures that I have to figure out what to do with.
I don’t have much to report on the New Leaf front. I got both 7 eleven items that came out in Japan while I was there and a seemingly infinite number of people in my plaza.
Fleeting Cherry Blossoms
From April 1-10 it was cherry blossom season in Kasen village. This time of year is always my favorite in Animal Crossing as I love the delicate pink trees and the contrast with the bright spring grass.

While in Japan I got this lovely meaty bed, and a protractor table. The meat bed is from 7 Eleven (that’s an actual food item in store—no I didn’t eat it while there). The table is the second to last piece in the wi-fi stationery set.
Street Pass Overload
The first day I was out exploring Japan my mii plaza got filled up. I was so excited to see this when I visited it:
But I thought I only had that many people. Not so. Every single space was occupied. I didn’t even have time to visit them all. I visited a few and if they had things I wanted to order I locked them so they wouldn’t get replaced by other houses.
Fleeing Villager
One day I logged in and Shizue told me that Tangy was leaving. I hadn’t played for more than a minute or two in days, so it came as a surprise. Someone in Japan probably got Tangy. I hope she finds a good home.
Miscellany
We had Katrina, and Gulliver, campers, and Saharah. Here are a few screenshots of the goings on from the past couple weeks.
The Now
I’m trying to get back into playing regularly. This morning I went through to make a list of all the fish and bugs I’m missing that are available in April. It’s a fairly short list:
Bugs
- snail
- spider
Fish
- sardine? オオイワナ
- pop-eyed goldfish
- neon tetra
- killifish
Sea Creatures
- Giant Red Crab
Not that all of these go away after April, these are just the critters available that I need to try and catch.
I even bought turnips this week, although only 600. This morning the price was up to 130 bells. I didn’t sell. Knowing my luck it’ll be very high tonight or tomorrow since I only bought a few.
So hard to get back on a normal schedule.

The street pass homes are beautiful! I’m sorry for your loss of Tangy, too…
