Animal Crossing New Leaf US: A Hysterical Fan

Stalk Market for Monday, July 22

AM: 53
PM: 49

I have a lot riding on the stalk market this week. I sunk the most money ever into it and purchased 6,000 turnips. If you have a high price this week, you’ll be my new best friend. 😛 So far my prices have me terrified. And needless to say I’ve got a sticky note going to input prices from all my towns. If one of them has a high price I’ll advertise most on twitter.

Let’s see, it’s been an eventful few days. I guess we’ll start with:

Bug-Off

I have been hoarding bugs for a bit. I had butterflies from around town, bugs from the island. I had a little of everything. I took notes as I turned in bugs from what I thought would be least to most points. The most bugs I turned in were Agrias Butterflies (11) and they scored anywhere from 69-97 points. My island bugs really didn’t do that well, but I think I just had bad luck with them. My cyclommatus and horned elephants didn’t even break 90 points. The Horned Atlas got from 81-94 points (I had 4 of them). The goliath beetles looked promising. I only had two, but they scored 110 and 112 points respectively. My final bug was a Horned Hercules and he scored me my winning 134 points. From my horde of bugs I got:

  • Cicada Stereo
  • Beetle Chair
  • Mini Butterfly Table
  • Honeybee Chest
  • Spiderweb Clock
  • Butterfly Wall

Not a bad haul! Even though I could have sold those bugs for a lot of money. Between my towns the only Bug-Off item I’m missing now is the Firefly Lamp. I have a few extra bug-off items to trade (honeybee chest, cicada stereo, caterpillar sofa) if anyone has a spare Firefly Lamp.

Later That Evening

After the hullabaloo of the Bug-Off had died down I went to see K.K. Slider. A lot. I requested about 25 songs from him when all is said and done. I was hoping he would give me his picture, but he didn’t. I imagine you have to go for 20 separate visits to get that elusive item.

I sat in every single chair.

I sat in every single chair.

Shrunk boogied. No one else showed up for the concert.

Public Works

Before the Bug-Off began I was out and about watering, pulling weeds, just doing menial chores when Kitt approached me with a fabulous idea for Hanabi:
HNI_0075

I don’t know why everyone wants chairs and hammocks and stuff. You know what I want? A different bench. No one has suggested a bench. All I’ve got to work with is the default bench and it’s not very exciting.

Ok, not everyone wants a chair. Sheldon wants a solar panel. Clean energy is great. And some part of me almost wants to put this in just because I haven’t build anything beside a zen lamp in a while, but I’m still holding out.

Campers

I almost dread going into the camping tent since Hanabi is full. I’m afraid that some adorable creature will be in there that I won’t be able to coerce into moving in. (I’m looking at you Annalise and Bunnie!) Fortunately the last couple of campers have been…not my favorites. For example:

yes weirdo. (Are you a dog? ) I'm the mayor.

Club Tortimer Hopping

In the evening I decided to try my hand at island hopping again. I had (IMO) a pretty successful run.

Muumuu!

Muumuu!

I found chocolate bars. I bought one to give as a gift. And then I found the Muumuu. Muhaha! Now I can eat all the chocolate bars I want and wear the muumuu. Actually a few of the islands I visited had the muumuu. I bought another one either to give to Yumi or to give away as a gift.

Then I took a break because I had scheduled a house visit with Victoria (more to come on that later)

And then I island hopped a bit again. I came across a sand castle I had to have it. Unfortunately I was short 3 medals. I mentioned that, but the person on the island just left, so I went and did a tour by myself and bought it.

Me in the muumuu with the new sand castle in the beach room. Ahh relaxin'

Today in Hanabi

Today has been very eventful. I checked my mail and had a letter from Victoria. I thought it would contain a tumbleweed or something to thank me for letting her visit, but she sent me her picture! Yay! Now if she wants to move I can let her go without regret.

I didn’t see him at all yesterday (I wonder why?). But today he was walking around ready to hand over my first K.K. Slider badge.

Fashion Check

I was hoping I would see Gracie this week. I only need one more positive evaluation before the Home Center upgrades to the Department Store.

She wants to see an official outfit

She wants to see an official outfit

Gracie wanted to see an “official” outfit. Naturally I did a little research and enlisted the aid of Yumi’s vast closet I was able to put together an outfit without ordering anything.

Here’s what I wore:

  • white police cap (EU DLC)
  • pilot shades (they were in my Labelle’s)
  • waistcoat (GracieGrace during “sale”)
  • white formal pants (Gracie Grace during “sale”)
  • white leather shoes (Gracie Grace summer)

There are official socks/tights but I didn’t have any in Kasen or Hanabi, so I just went sockless. I thought about throwing something on since she always seems miffed when I don’t have anything other than the style she wants to see, but I didn’t know what would go well with official so I decided against it.

Me cowering before my eval.

As you can see, the fashion check went well. With any luck the Home Center will have a notice on the bulletin board tomorrow about its upgrade. I can’t wait to stop stealing Kasen’s fertilizer! If I do get the department store this week I may have to hold a party. 🙂 We’ll wait and see.

Horticulture

Because I’m made of money (not) I planted two money trees around the fountain (using Yumi’s golden shovel). I only put about 60,000 bells in each hole. But I have the rich town ordinance and a pretty good feng shui room, so I’m hopeful that they’ll grow. I’m also slowly putting blue roses all around the fountain.

Hopefully that grows into a money tree.

Hopefully that grows into a money tree.

And that’s all I’ve got so far. Fingers crossed about the department store!

Getting Around

In an effort to see the world and enrich my catalog and the catalogs of others (that’s a highfalutin way of saying we traded) I visited Aleh of Hope village Monday night. His town was very pretty!

HNI_0095

HNI_0012

HNI_0002

Club Tortimer

I’ve also started to ask Kapp’n to let me visit go to the island with other people. I feel like this is stretching the truth a bit. I don’t actually care who’s on the island. I go over, see what’s for sale, and leave. Rinse and repeat. I feel a little bad when I do it because half the time I don’t even say hello, but I’m on a mission to find stuff! So far my mission hasn’t been going all that well. I found a red wetsuit that I had to have.

HNI_0020

The next day I saw a blue wetsuit I didn’t have, but I refused to spend all my medals on another wet suit. Then I found the cabana screen I needed…I didn’t want to buy it because I could find that on any old island, but I bought it so that next time I saw it it wouldn’t tempt me. The only cabana item I’m missing now is the wallpaper.

I still haven’t found anything I consider really exciting on Club Tortimer, but I’ll be going to hunt again after I get a few medals.

Cabana L☆cke

The outside of her house is a cabana. Kind of goes against Hanabi’s zen theme, but what’re you gonna do? I didn’t want a clone of Vella’s house. I suppose when it’s expanded I can add the zen exterior shape so it kind of matches.

As those of you who have read for a bit know, I’m pattern-challenged. But Pikopuri magazine’s August issue had an awesome hibiscus pattern, only I didn’t like the color. They show the full grid of the pattern, so I was able to recreate it and then tweak the color on it to something I liked. Yeah, it’s a little much as wallpaper and floor, but I think I’ll leave it for a while (like the emerald encrusted green set doesn’t make you a little nauseous).

HNI_0067_2

No more Deep Thoughts

Last night I fished out the last scallop I needed to complete my pirate theme. The last item I needed was a keg. The theme isn’t really on display yet, it’s in my museum room with all the DLC and spotlight items I haul out when people visit. I hope to put it in L☆cke’s house if she ever gets another room.

HNI_0098_2

Suite Dreams

Thanks to everyone who submitted their dream address! I hope to slowly visit you all. 🙂

So far the only village I’ve dreamed about is PikoPuri village (yes, the magazine I mentioned previously). Each magazine comes with a book of the most awesome dress designs and cutouts, so I was really excited to visit their village. But, sadly it wasn’t nearly as enchanting as the magazine. There were no paths. There was no order to the village. The houses were tiny and the only patterns you could take home was the flag and the things that say “Photo Spot”—which I initially thought said photo soot.

If you'd like to visit the village, here's the code.

If you’d like to visit the village, here’s the code.

I'm chuckling nervously because I thought the sign read "photo soot"

This is the pikopuri princess. They have her dress as a QR code and I believe this cutout might be in the June-July magazine.

This is the princess's (older?) sister.

That cute dress is actually in the August magazine.

Mikuro, my Hero!

I asked my friend on twitter if he would trade something for the three pieces of 7/Eleven DLC I am missing. Apparently he had everything I could have possibly traded him, but gave them to me anyway as a present. I hope someday I can repay his kindness! The hardest part about trading with him is the time zone difference (since he’s in Japan and I’m in California). Even using the internet I got the agreed meeting time wrong. Or rather, the site I was using didn’t take daylight savings into account and I ended up opening my gates an hour early… **yaaaaawn**

But I had a blast meeting up with Mikuro and showing him around my sleepy town. Apparently the only animals awake at 7:00am are Kitt and Sheldon

Glossing over the rest of yesterday…

I had Katrina and I wasted all afternoon hauling over 4 residents from Kasen and 4 residents from Quantico as well as L☆cke and Vella, only to find out out of towners getting their fortunes told didn’t count toward Katrina opening a shop in town. Grumbles.

Oh, and the prize from Gulliver from Easter Island? A moai statue. Pretty cool.

Turnips Unloaded

The high point of yesterday was visiting Shinkuu of Bakatown and selling my turnips for 473 bells apiece. Thanks Shinkuu!

HNI_0088

I am very jealous of that awesome bell! I think it'd go great in Hanabi.

I am very jealous of that awesome bell! I think it’d go great in Hanabi.

Wait, what?! hahaha

Wait, what?! hahaha

I made just enough off of that to give to Yumi in Kasen and push her to the 10,000,000 bell mark. Hooray! I think I’m going to hold out until August 1 (to get interest), buy the summer Gracie series, and then continue on to 20,000,000 bells and beyond. I haven’t had a good stalk market week in any of my towns in a while, so maybe now’s the time to sink a million bells in it?

Badge Man

After coming back from Bakatown the badge man gave me the Pro Turnip Trader badge. This has much more to do with the kindness of others letting me sell than my prediction skills which are notoriously awful.

Today’s Highlight: Gracie

Just in time for the picture of my outfit of the day (mine are usually not very exciting or changed often enough) Gracie showed up. She wanted to see an ornate outfit. After doing some research I decided to borrow from Yumi’s giant collection of Gracie clothes.

I'm glad she doesn't judge me when I show up. This is the crazy stuff I normally wear. Yup I wander around in wet suits a lot.

I’m glad she doesn’t judge me when I show up. This is the crazy stuff I normally wear. Yup I wander around in wet suits a lot.

My ensemble is:

  • hair-bow wig
  • pink lace-up dress
  • rainbow tights—they were on sale in my Kicks. Only others are fishnets
  • Leopard Pumps—apparently these are the only ornate shoes

I was really torn about whether to wear an accessory or not. There are no ornate accessories. I decided I wanted to wear the heart shades anyway. They’re considered “cute”, but since they’re from Gracie’s store I hoped she wouldn’t mind.

HNI_0048_2

HNI_0056_2

I was relieved when she told me I looked like I’d come straight out of a fairy tale (a Lolita one maybe?). Her reward for nailing the outfit was a Gracie Chest…which was exactly what she gave me last time I passed her evaluation. So, I’ve got a Gracie Chest to trade!

Public Works

They only new public work I’ve had requested recently comes from Soleil and is not going to be put in if I have my mayoral say: a modern bench.

Fashion Results

I left you Monday with a rather weak cliff hanger. I had ordered my clothes to show Gracie Grace, but had not yet received them, so I didn’t have the results from my modern fashion evaluation. Without further ado, here they are.

I rocked it. I was surprised she mentioned my suck up attempt wearing her clothes. I had the glasses too, but I was already wearing the oval ones and was too lazy to dig them up. So far I’ve had two positive evaluations. I have two more to go before I get the department store.

Less than stellar hunting

I’ve been saving and continuing in order to see a scorpion. I have run into them a couple times, but I haven’t managed to successfully capture one. I usually see them when I’m not looking for them (like darting out from my cherry orchard) and then they bite me when I panic. Or they throw themselves off the cliff…

Hugs not Thugs!

I’m trying to woo Shep. By woo I mean I want his picture. So I’ve been doing any little request he asks of me. Last night he sent me off with a petition for “Hugs not Thugs”. I snuck over to my as yet undocumented town Quantico to get it signed.

I went over there also because Quantico was paying premium for perfect cherries, so I made 300,000 bells to boot.

But sadly Shep didn’t give me his picture for all that hard work. Soon I hope!

Resetti’s Picture!

After the last time I saw Resetti (resulting in his blasting off) I didn’t think he’d be too keen on my visit, but he was alone this time and he gave me his picture! I still don’t have his or Don’s in my Japanese town, so I’m really excited about it.

Today in Hanabi

It’s been a busy day! Hanabi has officially changed from early town (because I haven’t been playing quite early enough for it to matter) to wealthy town. I had Kasen on wealthy town, but if you’ve been there and seen all the flowers, you know how time consuming it is to water every day, and now that the rainy season is over…Kasen’s back on beautiful town so I can slack.

Turnips: Sold

None of my towns seem to be having good weeks (watch one of them will spike tomorrow) so I ran over to Methos to sell for 343 bells each this morning. Thanks for opening Herman! I’m one step closer to my 10 million bell goal!

A Good Deal

If you’ve read this blog much, then you know I’ve been struggling to get blue roses for a while now. I had exactly one and was still trying to breed a mate for it (unsuccessfully). Cheryl from BlueBell offered me a trade I couldn’t refuse. I saw her gates open after selling off my turnips so I barged in and we swapped. Her town was so pretty!

Concerning Campers

I admit until now I haven’t paid much attention to campers unless I wanted them to move in. It took me forever in my Japanese game to figure out that they played games (language barrier). I sort of knew they gave you items, but I never really looked into them. Then I found the surfboard and all of that has changed.

BTW I got a surfboard yesterday in my third town (too many. Don’t do it.) from a pink octopus named Marina that I wish could’ve moved in.

Ok, so camping items. They are season specific, you can only get some during winter. They can be ordered from the catalog. Here’s a handy list with the ones I still need in italics:

Name Season
backpack spring, fall, summer
propane stove spring, fall, summer
kayak spring, fall, summer
sleeping bag spring, fall, summer
campfire winter
bonfire spring, fall, summer
surfboard spring, fall, summer
fish grill winter

Gracie! Eval #2

HNI_0065_2

HNI_0066_2

I was surprised to see big ol’ granny giraffe (Rooney’s words, not mine) in the town square today. She wants to see a modern outfit. I debated waiting until after 5pm to blog so I could tell you about the results of her evaluation, but decided to just write now, give results later.

I have to order part of the modern outfit I intend to show her. There’s not a whole lot I can show her because there’s only one modern bottom—a dark polka skirt, no socks or tights and two pairs of shoes, but one of the pairs of shoes, the stripe shoes, is only available from Gracie during the fall and I don’t have them.

This is the plan for my semi-matched outfit:

  • Gracie Hat
  • either Gracie Glasses/Oval Shades
  • Gracie Tank
  • Clogs

Barold decided Hanabi needed a hammock. I think he’s right so I jumped on that and put one right in. It’s perched precariously by a cliff, so don’t rock off if you fall asleep in it.

The morning after I paid off my loan Lyle (insert cold shiver emotion) showed up outside my door and gave me a very long talk about becoming a V.I.P. in the Happy Home Academy. While I’m excited to be considered a V.I.P. I don’t know if I’ll participate in the challenges right away because I’m not particularly interested in the gold exterior items for Vella. I have them in my Japanese town on Yumi’s house. Nevertheless I told Lyle I’d take the antique challenge. I would have to seriously rearrange my house to do well in it.

for a trip to Ireland! Stephen from Shamrock had 377 Bell turnip prices and I (as usual) misjudged my market. Sorry Stephen, I just couldn’t get Julian on the train. Nook was out of dramamine and as I said, he gets motion sick. That would’ve been messy!

Almost out of Debt

I then paid off my loan for the right (beach/island) room and asked Nook to enlarge my final room. So, after 598,000 bells I’ll be out of debt. At least with Vella…

If this Ain’t Basic

I hit up my other towns for basic items. The outfit isn’t pretty. Not at all, but it is basic.

She started out telling me my outfit was bland, but then I ended up walking away with a Gracie lamp. If you’re curious what I was wearing:

  • do-rag
  • mint glasses
  • vegetarian shirt
  • chino pants
  • slippers

I couldn’t find any basic socks in my stores, so I just left socks off.

Whew, and that’s how my day went. Don’t look for another blog until Monday. Schedule change (again!) Class starts tomorrow. 頑張ろう!

News for Kasen

This Sunday is a holiday in Japan: Tanabata. Isabelle will be handing out a bamboo tree (not sure of English name) and there will be a cutout for picture taking. I will open Kasen’s gates for a little while for people to come get a bamboo tree. I don’t intend to add a lot of people, but you can sweeten the deal if you want to come by bringing something off my wish list. 😛 Item I want the most right now? Surfboard.

P.S.I received a US copy of Animal Crossing New Leaf from Nintendo. Thanks, Nintendo!
