I am currently downloading MH4, so I may abruptly end this to go play. Eeeeee! And in other news, my 32GB SD card is finally full on my JP 3DS. Had to start a new one or it would be done already…

Bizarre Unicorn Roommate

Let’s see, what’s new in the wonderful world of Hanabi. Julian came to Vella’s house Wednesday night and kept saying he wanted to move in. Today he decided to try and move out of Hanabi altogether. There’s something wrong with this picture. Maybe he’s (not so) secretly in love with Vella and thinks she spurns his advances and so must leave because he can’t have her…Or something.

Dirty Little Secret

Yesterday I didn’t play much at all. I’m debating whether I should tell you why. You’ll think less of me I’m sure. 😛 Ok. I’ll spill and then you can hate me forever. Or flame me. Or just stop reading or whatever.

Yesterday Kasen’s AM turnip price spiked to 456 Bells. I had already unloaded all of my turnips for a paltry 178 bells apiece because I’m paranoid. However, it was Sunday in Quantico. I’m sure you can do that math there. Yumi had about 25 million bells in the bank. I figured it would take me a couple hours to get to 50 million bells for the next post office savings reward, and a couple more than that to get up to 100 million bells for the ATM machine so I could just be done. Somehow it ended up taking about ten hours of buying turnips and selling turnips, occasionally rewinding the time on both towns, accidentally rewinding with unsold turnips…F#*@&k. By the end I was delirious and singing Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” but replacing the chorus with “♫ I’m up all night to sell turnips. ♪”

Yumi got an ATM. And I never want to see another turnip. I really thought cheating was more glamourous and less time consuming. I thought maybe the deviousness would keep me going but oh my gawd that was the most boring day. And I don’t even like the ATM machine now. The 7/11 one is so much cooler. *kicks the circa 1987 ATM*

Yumi and her ill-gotten ATM machine.

Yumi and her ill-gotten ATM machine.

The sad thing is is that 1) Vella still needs the gold turnip selling badge, so at some point I do still have to buy turnips for her. And 2) Vella would like her own ATM machine, so either I’m going to have to launder Yumi’s money or somehow go through that again.

Now that you think less of me…

Today in Hanabi

Because I deserved it, I watered all my flowers and then as we were standing around to celebrate the completion of the zen garden it began to rain.
HNI_0013

Today wasn’t all doom and gloom and me feeling like my reputation is irreparably tarnished though. Katrina’s tent was in town and after Katrina telling Vella that great luck with items was coming her way if she’d only put on Mario’s T-Shirt, she offered to set up shop in town.

HNI_0075

Ok, the next part is a little scandalous. I had Yumi come over and drop off some leftover money because Vella is po’. Tomorrow main street will have a psychic shop. Woot!

HNI_0015

And, Locke’s house is fully expanded and paid off—using fruit money! Not turnip money. So, either I can now take a break from hoarding fruit money for a little while or I can think about adding a third character…

The Argyle Exhibit

The argyle room in Kasen’s museum is 98% complete. The only thing it’s missing is a mannequin. And I’m not entirely certain I could put it in the room anyway. There are a lot of other things I would love to argyle-ify, but I can’t put anything else out! I wanted more lights on the one bare wall. No can do.

The camp sign is back up in its new location. The pine I planted just south of the campfire died just like the one east of it. I don’t think we’re going to have two marshmallow roasting tree stump seats.

But my single thriving pine tree matured today. Naturally I chopped it down… I wasn’t looking for a specific pattern on the stump, so flower works for me.

Public Works

I’m putting in a zen streetlight today. I actually put it in yesterday, but forgot to pay it off.

Still no request for a jungle gym. However I think we may need insurance in town. The residents keep having disturbing dreams of things falling out of the sky. Today it was a sphinx.

Katrina

Katrina was in town doling out fortunes. I got one with Locke and one with Vella. Still no shop in town. Hotch just got his in Quantico the other day. I’m slightly jealous…but Quantico has 4 residents and Hanabi only has the two of us. I don’t want to think about adding a third resident until I’ve paid off Locke’s house.

Golden Dreams

Every few days I get enough gold nuggets to try for a new piece of the golden set. Today I hit the mother load with a money/ore rock and it spit out 3 gold nuggets. I turned in the nuggets and ended up with the golden carpet. (To Nick: sorry I didn’t get back to you about a time and place! My communication skills/remembering to reply to people are abysmal!) Now all I need left is a golden closet. I wonder how many tries it will take to get one specific piece.

I forgot to happy dance, so stunned silence it is.

Mail Trickery!

When I logged on this afternoon Pete was waiting for me. Pete means: stuff! From Nintendo! So I was really excited, but it was just a letter telling me to pick up the afternoon tea set—like I hadn’t done that on Sunday. If you had really wanted me to pick up the tea set you would have sent me a tea cup or something to go with the petit fours on the set.

Fraud!

One Step Closer to Done

Yumi over in Kasen had Redd yesterday. The legitimate sculpture was a duplicate for Kasen, but I needed it in Hanabi so now we have a mystic sculpture to ponder at.

Animal Crossing New Leaf US: Split-Pea Soup

Stalk Market for Wednesday, August 21

AM: 63 Bells
PM: 55 Bells

Honestly there’s not a whole lot going on in Hanabi. Yesterday I had Katrina. I visited her with Vella and L☆cke. I still haven’t unlocked her shop and I have no idea how many fortunes I need, which is kinda frustrating.

The biggest news is that I had an irresistible camper yesterday. I don’t usually like elephants, but I have a soft spot for the animals that look like other things. Who can resist a tea cup elephant? Or a rhino with a strawberry nose? I had Tia as a camper yesterday. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to invite her to live in Hanabi. I’m not done relandscaping after Victoria left, or fixing up the bridge disaster. And my biggest worry is that whoever I get will put their house somewhere I don’t want it. So I was on the fence.

Then my husband reminded me that I could just end up with some random villager I didn’t want. And wouldn’t an adorable teacup elephant be better than, oh I dunno, a monkey? Or worse yet, a frog??? So I decided to invite Tia to move in. She was a tease! She kept hinting that she wanted to move and then backing out.

Of course then she suggested she would move in if I beat her at a game. She chose rock paper scissors. I never win at rock paper scissors. This time was no different.

HNI_0008

HNI_0009

HNI_0010

Finally after going in and out several times I got her to play another game to decide whether she’d move in. This time she chose charades. Her charade was. “When it’s sleeping…” flowery happy emotion. “When it’s awake…” worried pee pee dance. My choices were dragon, president, baker, and something else. The only thing that kinda made sense was dragon, so I chose that and apparently it was correct. I’m hoping she stakes out her house tomorrow. And I’m semi-not-ashamed to say I fully intend to cheat to make sure she picks a good house spot.

The playground

The playground is coming along slowly. Yesterday I removed my ugly fruit sign and today I put in a drinking fountain near where the fruit sign was. Tomorrow I will put in the second balloon arch and then I just have to hope someone Barold suggests a jungle gym. I did sleuthing and his personality type can request the jungle gym, so I guess it’s time to run around and hope he notices me.

No one has suggested anything in the past day or two.

Edit: As I was checking PM turnip prices O’Hare ran up and suggested Stonehenge. Rats.

Cataloging

I haven’t been “playing” as much as I’d like. Though I haven’t mentioned it too much here, I’ve been spending a lot of time working on my catalog and my wish list. I’m mainly trying to complete Yumi’s catalog even though I try and have Vella catalog everything too. I noticed I had items scattered among all sorts of characters and I’m trying to make sure that Yumi at least catalogs everything. Then I’ll worry about Vella.

I think I’m doing pretty well with furniture and stuff. I didn’t realize that would be the easy part. I was shocked when I found out how many shirts I need. So I’ve been double checking alt characters’ catalogs just to make sure they don’t have something I need. And I’ve started raiding my husband’s catalog. He has a ton of shirts I need! But his mail is always full…and so are his pockets. So the process of ordering everything is less than pleasant.

Thanks to Willow and Euphy for their contributions to my wish list this morning. 🙂
HNI_0039

HNI_0052_2

Yumi also only needs two bugs and two fish to fully complete her fish and bug encyclopedia. After the 15th of September (when the salmon come out) she should be finished. I have been so tempted to time travel in Quantico to get it over with.

Three’s a Crowd

Let me talk about Quantico for a second. If you read waaaaaay back when before ACNL was released in the US, you’ll know that I wasn’t even sure I was going to buy an English copy of the game. I knew it was a time sink and I didn’t think I had enough time for more than one version. Eventually once I found out they were releasing the pop tart 3DS stateside I decided I really wanted one and I would get one just for New Leaf.

Then at the end of April, just after I got back from Japan, I was contacted by Nintendo’s marketing and they offered me an early copy of New Leaf. But…my pop tart…I still wanted my pop tart. So foolishly I decided that I would still get the pop tart and I would make it a theme town and live happily ever after. The thing is, I barely have time for two towns, let alone three. I decided I would rebel and TT in my third game! But I haven’t. I’m too afraid of losing villagers. And I know if I TT to all the holidays that are upcoming I’ll really lose interest. So instead of feeling pressured to play Quantico every day I’m a few days behind. I’m not terribly worried about catching up. The only problem with not playing much is that I haven’t gotten a lot of public works. And I want a scarecrow. And an oil rig. And maybe a satellite dish. I did finally get perfect town, so I picked up all my hybrids and I’m letting the weeds multiply. That’s kind of liberating.

The right side of town will eventually be the spooky part with half-dead trees, pitfalls, and trash. But for now it’s just a huge money making orange grove (whose proceeds pad Yumi’s slowly increasing bank account).

This is all a roundabout way of saying that I finally got Quantico a dream code. And I’m nervous about sharing an unfinished town. If you visit feel free to make suggestions. Just say hi to Ankha or Flurry and enjoy the city atmosphere. Unsub’s house isn’t very scary atm, but someday I hope it will be. 😉 Reid will eventually have a card/game room. Garcia will have a giant collection of computers in her way too bright house. Oh, I don’t know what do with the outside of Reid’s house. Any thoughts?

Quantico’s Dream Address: 4600-2650-4256

And for now, I have to go play Saturday’s bug-off in Quantico and see if I can take bronze…

Animal Crossing New Leaf US: Buffness Theory

Stalk Market for Thursday, August 1

AM: 106 Bells
PM: 140 Bells

Well, I didn’t get a huge spike (There’s still time I guess). And though I did a little trolling on twitter to sell in strangers’ towns, none of my requests panned out so I went over to Quantico when it hit 163 bells and sold there. I’ve decided that in the stalk market, like in life, slow and steady wins the race. I could’ve held out for another day or so, but I wanted the money in Yumi’s bank account to pad it. I’m happy to report she got 71,500 bells worth of interest.

Yumi then bought a few pieces of Gracie furniture (just needs the desk and wagon), and paid off stonehenge. She needs to buy Katrina’s shop and then all proceeds from the sale of foreign fruit will go back into her bank account. I’m going to try to spiff up Kasen before opening for Obon.

The last few days in Hanabi

As I’ve said, nothing much has happened. There’ve been a few campers. I think they’re really trying to convince me to let one of my townies go. Sheldon tried to move to go on a training tour, but I told him no. I have his picture but…It’s so wrong that the only reason I don’t want my townies to go is because I’m afraid of where a new townie will land.

I should let you go little squirrel. If only I were a little braver.

My question for you: Who is the one villager you want to move into your village and why? My dream villager used to be Ankha. I had only ever seen pictures of her, never saw her anywhere. Then she moved in to Quantico. I just always thought she was the coolest looking towny ever. I would love to get her a matching Lucky villager. He’s also one of my favorites. And since she’s moved in, I still love her little frowny face.

Obviously Julian was very high on my list of wanted villagers, but I didn’t even know he even existed until sometime in May.

I don’t really have any villagers that I must have at the moment. I seem to have all of my faves scattered among my games (Lillian/Bunnie, Carmen, Ankha, Julian, Stitches, Lolly). But on my list of I would really like: Zucker only because he’s a takoyaki and it makes me laugh. I’m newly infatuated with Annalise since she camped. I loved Clyde in my City Folk town. I think Kabuki is completely awesome looking. He’d go well in Hanabi. I wouldn’t mind Diana or Fauna, but the rest of the deer don’t really do it for me (Zell not withstanding). My husband desperately wants Coco. She creeps me out.

Gold Furniture

I have bad luck making gold furniture. I seem to be getting a lot of gold ore, but also a lot of duplicate items. The ones up for sale in my Re-Tail shop went to a good home.

I hope you like the gold furniture Shawn! And thanks for the tip!

I put it in the basement where my golden mishmash is being used to bolster yellow feng shui. I wonder if the basement room affects luck since according to the awful Prima Guide it’s not scored by the HHA…Maybe I’ll move it upstairs and put the balloon room down there (honestly I’m really sick of the balloon furniture). It was cool for the first month or so. But I’ve always hated that hat.

August

This morning was awesome, both in game and out. Early this morning the fedex man buzzed the door and brought me an unexpected box of Harry and David peaches and a bottle of wine—an early birthday present from my mom. They smell sooooo good. I feel like I’m acting just like Barold because I cannot wait to eat them, but they’re not quite ripe. (I promise I’m not getting sloshed on the wine as I type this. 😉 )

Don’t forget to stop by your post office and pick up the DLC. It seems that the US is also getting the fireworks table, so I think every region may be getting it for August.

You may notice that whatever incarnation of your Nooklings shop is selling fireworks for the month. I only had 1 roman candle and 1 fortune cookie, while Kasen had a roman candle and some other firework. I haven’t lit them yet. I intend to hoard them at least until Sunday.

Very Fine. Gimme!

New Month, New Critters

So far the only new thing I’ve gotten is the rice grasshopper. I had it erroneously listed as a katydid. I only knew its Japanese name and had to guess at its English name until I caught one and could verify. Apparently there is nothing with an English name of katydid in the game. But for all intents and purposes rice grasshopper = katydid. </rant>

HNI_0009

So far the things I need to catch this month are:

  • scorpion (grumbles)
  • soft-shelled turtle
  • flat worm
  • Petaltail
  • house centipede

I’m really hoping the petaltail isn’t as hard to find/catch as it was in City Folk. I chopped down every single tree in town just to get it. I will do that again if I have to (not the money tree) but I’m hoping it won’t come to that.

Public Works

Finally I had a suggestion! Unfortunately it wasn’t for something I intend to put in. I have one of these in Kasen and it’s really pretty at night, but I don’t want one in Hanabi.
